Polarisation seems to be on the rise, even within our university. Whether it's discussions about sustainability and climate change, violent conflicts around the world, diversity and inclusion, or the tension between science and personal beliefs, differences between people and their opinions are increasingly emphasised and magnified. Polarisation doesn't have to be harmful, especially not within our university, as it is a place for debate, for the exchange of ideas, and for sharing experiences. However, polarisation should not dominate. The goal of debates and discussions is often not to reach a compromise or to convince others, but rather to seek a common ground. And that common ground provides the trust we need to learn, work, and live together.
